what is included in the legend of zelda botw dlc packs

Ready to extend your Breath of the Wild adventure? Here’s everything available in the BotW DLC packs.

Breath of the Wild is the penultimate adventure experience on the Nintendo Switch. The base game has plenty of fun, but Nintendo released two expansion packs and a number of free DLCs for the game. Here’s a peek at everything that is included in each expansion pass, so you know what you expect when you buy it. This is a full BotW DLC list.

The Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass is available for $19.99 USD / €19.99 / £17.99. There was also a free DLC that released in November 2017 inspired by Xenoblade Chronicles 2. That DLC is free for everyone to download and enjoy.

DLC Pack 1 – The Master Trials

Here is peek at everything that is new in the first BotW DLC pack entitled ‘The Master Trials.’ This DLC focuses on challenges that add additional content to the game after you have defeated it. There is minor story content to enjoy but most of this is just fighting challenges.

Trial of the Sword

You can complete a challenge that awards Link with the Master Sword. You visit a location to challenge the Trial of the Sword, where you fight waves of enemies. The trial starts without any armor, equipment, or food items to help you. If you can complete all 45 rooms in the challenge, Link can wield the Master Sword’s full power.

Master Mode

This new mode was included for people who think the base game is too easy. The overland is populated with more powerful monsters that don’t appear in normal mode. Monsters can also detect Link more easily and will recover health. Treasure chests are also more plentiful, since the world is more dangerous.

Travel Medallion

In the Akkala region, you can find the Travel Medallion in a treasure chest in the Lomei Labyrinth. Place it at your location to make a checkpoint to which you can return. It’s a fast and easy way to get a teleport and a way to return to your location quickly – but it’s necessary to make traveling easier in the game.

Korok Mask

The Korok Mask gets new functionality in that it will shake if Link is near a hidden korok. The Korok Mask is hidden in a treasure chest in the southern area of the Lost Woods. If you’re trying to find all 900 korok seeds in the game, then is definitely something that will help you.

Clothing Items

Also included in this BotW DLC pack are eight outfits honoring the legacy look of Link throughout the Legend of Zelda series. There are hints to help you find these items, but here’s a peek at what you’ll get.

  • Majora’s Mask
  • Midna’s Helmet
  • Tingle’s Hood
  • Tingle’s Shirt
  • Phantom Helmet
  • Tingle’s Tights
  • Phantom Armor
  • Phantom Greaves

DLC Pack 2 – The Champion’s Ballad

The Champions’ Ballad DLC for BotW focuses on challenges around the four champions who aid Link in his journey. Once all the challenges and trials have been completed, Link will obtain a new power known as the Master Cycle Zero. Kass also shares new original songs capturing the lost memories of the four Champions and Zelda.

Ancient Horse Gear

The Ancient Bridle increases a horse’s number of spurs while equipped. The Ancient Saddle allows you to call your horse, no matter how far away they are. Both items appear in a treasure chest that is buried in the ground near Malanya Spring. You’ll need your magnesis power to access the chests.

Clothing Items

The BotW DLC pack 2 also contains many clothing items that are throwbacks to past entries in the series. Here’s a peek at some of the outfits you can obtain:

  • Island Lobster Shirt
  • Ravio’s Hood
  • Zant’s Helmet
  • Phantom Ganon (Skull, Greaves Armor)
  • Royal Guard Outfit (Cap, Uniform, Guard Boots)

Expansion Pack Bonus

After you purchase the BotW DLC Expansion Pass, there are three treasure chests in-game that offer unique items. Here is how to get them.

  • Ruby – Outside the Oman Au Shrine
  • Nintendo Switch Shirt – Near the Ja Baij Shrine
  • Bomb Arrows – Collapsed Wall Behind Keh Namut Shrine

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Free DLC

Before the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the Nintendo Switch, BotW got a free DLC to celebrate. An armor set from the game was added with a few short side quests. These quests involve looking at the night sky to find a red shooting star, which leaves behind a chest containing one of three pieces of armor. You can find all three pieces once you complete the quest.
