hori zelda split pad pro

The HORI Split Pad Pro is one of the best handheld grips for the original Nintendo Switch. Check out this new design for Tears of the Kingdom fans.

Nintendo Switch fans looking for a better controller to hold onto while playing in handheld mode need to look no further than the HORI Split Pad Pro. The Split Pad Pro offers bigger hands a much more ergonomic grip, making long play sessions that much more comfortable. HORI has partnered with Nintendo to license official Zelda imagery before—but none of them look quite as good as this series.

It’s worth noting that while the Split Pad Pro is great at providing better grip, it does not feature motion controls, HD rumble, NFC support, or an IR camera. That means it’s not a replacement for the Pro Controller or the Joy-Cons, unfortunately. Nintendo had made the motion control aiming with the bow and arrow so intuitive, I’m not sure how anyone plays without it.

The HORI Split Pad Pro featuring the new Tears of the Kingdom design will be released on August 31, 2023 in the United States. It will retail for $59.99. It’s unclear if the Split Pad Compact will be available State-side or not. There are several designs of the Compact already available including Grey and Yellow, Red, Pikachu, and Gengar. Adding a Zelda pattern to the mix wouldn’t be too much to ask. Check out the compact version below.

Perhaps HORI will release a Compact and Pro Pad two-pack, similar to what they have available on Amazon right now. You can pick up the default Pro Pad and the Compact for about $20 bucks cheaper if you snag the bundle rather than buying them separately. The Compact Pad retails for $49.99 and offers more ergonomic molding to fit into the hands, but no more internals.
