Image & Form has finally revealed the release date for SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech. IGN also got an exclusive look at 22 minutes of footage of the upcoming game. The game will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch for now, though will likely debut on PC and other consoles at a later date.

SteamWorld Quest is a natural evolution of the SteamWorld Series, as the first RPG created by the team at Image & Form. CEO Brjánn Sigurgeirsson says fans have been asking for a roleplaying game set in the SteamWorld universe since the original game debuted on Nintendo 3DS.

“The SteamWorld community has asked us to make an RPG for a long time, so I’m really happy and satisfied that we’re delivering such a polished title way sooner than anyone expected. Since we announced in January we’ve watched the growing excitement among gamers, press and content creators. I’m confident that fans of RPGs and previous SteamWorld games will adore SteamWorld Quest because it’s an absolute gem. We will keep the momentum going via our website and social media channels until the release and beyond.”

The turn-based combat features a unique mix of JRPG mechanics and card-based deck-building. I’ve eagerly been awaiting the release of this title as an avid fan of the SteamWorld series since my days of covering Nintendo news for both Wii U Daily and Nintendo Today.
