One of the biggest surprises from the most recent Nintendo Direct was the reveal of Cadence of Hyrule, a mash-up of Crypt of the Necrodancer and The Legend of Zelda. No one ever thought that an indie developer would be able to borrow two of Nintendo’s most iconic characters, but here we are in 2019. Game Informer revealed in a video about GDC that both Miyamoto and Aonuma loved the original game when it debuted on Switch.

Shigeru Miaymoto (LoZ creator) and Eiji Aonuma (LoZ producer) both became addicted to playing Crypt of the Necrodancer. They enjoyed the game so much, they sought out indie studio Brace Yourself Games to start a collaboration project. The result of this unusual partnership is Cadence of Hyrule, which features rhythm-based gameplay made popular by COTN.

The partnership is an unusual one, but it shows just how successful indie games have become on the Nintendo Switch. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one, since COTN is a true gem. Check it out if you haven’t already.
