Animal Crossing Switch Design

Animal Crossing: New Horizons ($59.99 Amazon) is launching in March, finally bringing an end to the drought. To celebrate the release of the game, Nintendo has unveiled a new Animal Crossing Switch with dock.

What about the Switch Pro?

But wait, weren’t there rumors last year that Nintendo is working on a new Switch model? Yes. Last year a Taiwanese site reported that production of a new Switch model would start by Q1 2020.

That report said the new model is supposed to feature a magnesium alloy body and a beefed up CPU. Many fans have dubbed this model the Nintendo Switch Pro — even though Nintendo hasn’t settled on a name.

A report in October 2018 from the Wall Street Journal reveals Nintendo wants to keep the Switch ball rolling. The company plans on releasing new models — much like it did with the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS.

The Switch Lite debuted in July 2019 as a solution for gamers who may not want the ‘switch’ functionality.

The Switch Lite cannot be docked and features Joy-Cons that cannot be removed. That’s a concern for the longevity of the model, though — Nintendo used the same defective Joy-Con parts in the Switch Lite.

What about the Animal Crossing Switch?

The new Animal Crossing Switch model is not this new rumored Nintendo Switch. While production of that model may be kicking off this year — Nintendo says it won’t release in 2020.

Speaking to investors at Nintendo’s latest financial briefing, president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed the news.

“We believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.”

If you’re interested in the Nintendo Switch as a console, now is a perfect time to jump in. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is releasing on March 20. The new console is coming just a week before on March 13.

Nintendo is also launching a new Animal Crossing-themed carrying case for both Switch designs. The only downside with this new release is that the game is not included in the package. The Animal Crossing Switch retails for $299, same as other original Switch models.
